0.11 cts Untreated Oval Alexandrite
Includes Expedited IGI Certificate (+$100.00)
Alexandrite is a rare variety of chrysoberyl best known for its remarkable color-change effect — appearing green to bluish-green in daylight and shifting to red or purplish-red under incandescent light, a phenomenon caused by trace chromium interacting with different light sources. First discovered in Russia's Ural Mountains in the 1830s and named for Tsar Alexander II, fine alexandrite is now also found in Brazil, Sri Lanka and East Africa, though genuine stones with strong color change remain scarce at any size.
