Understanding Carat Weight

Approximate gemstone size on a U.S. size 6 finger

Carat (ct.) is the standard unit used to weigh natural gemstones, including the certified sapphires, rubies, emeralds, and other loose gemstones in our collection, and one gram equals 5 carats. Every gemstone listed on Jamsora shows its exact carat weight alongside its independent lab certificate, so you always know precisely what you're buying.

Matched pairs: when a listing is sold as two stones together, the carat weight shown is their combined total, not the weight of each individual stone.

Carat weight alone doesn't fully describe how large a gemstone will look once set, since two stones of equal weight can appear different sizes depending on their cut and proportions. For a more reliable sense of a stone's visual size, check its millimeter dimensions (length × width × depth), listed on every product page alongside its carat weight and certificate details.

About Alexandrite Gemstone

Alexandrite is a rare variety of chrysoberyl best known for its remarkable color-change effect — appearing green to bluish-green in daylight and shifting to red or purplish-red under incandescent light, a phenomenon caused by trace chromium interacting with different light sources. First discovered in Russia's Ural Mountains in the 1830s and named for Tsar Alexander II, fine alexandrite is now also found in Brazil, Sri Lanka and East Africa, though genuine stones with strong color change remain scarce at any size. At 8.5 on the Mohs scale, it's durable enough for regular wear while remaining one of the most collectible gemstones in the world. Because color-change quality varies so widely from stone to stone, an independent lab certificate is essential when buying alexandrite — every stone in Jamsora's collection is graded and certified to confirm it's natural before it reaches you.
