Gemstone Guide
About Emerald Gemstone
Emerald is the green variety of beryl, prized for a saturated color caused by trace chromium and vanadium that no other gemstone quite replicates. Softer than ruby and sapphire at 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs scale, emerald typically forms with natural inclusions — often called its "jardin," or garden — which are considered part of the stone's character rather than a flaw, and most emeralds are clarity-enhanced with oil, a centuries-old and fully disclosed trade practice. Colombia remains the benchmark origin for fine emerald, especially the historic Muzo and Chivor mines, with Zambia and Brazil also producing beautiful natural stones. Because treatment and origin affect both value and care, every emerald in Jamsora's collection is independently certified, confirming whether it's untreated or oil-treated before it ships — essential information for anyone buying a natural emerald online.
